Trump says Russia will supply diesel as fuel prices surge

U.S. President Donald Trump says Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to send diesel to the United States and global markets.

Trump said more than 300,000 tonnes would be supplied immediately, followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and 1 million tonnes after that.

He also said Russia would deliver another 3 million tonnes within a short time, depending on the condition of its refineries.

The Kremlin confirmed that Russia was ready to supply oil and petroleum products, and the U.S. Treasury said it would temporarily waive sanctions to allow Russian diesel onto the global market.

The move comes as diesel prices have climbed during the war involving Iran; the fuel is widely used by truckers, farmers and construction businesses.

Trump says the additional supply will bring prices down, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized easing sanctions, saying it could support Russia's war.

The announced deliveries are expected in stages, but the sources do not give a specific date for the final 3 million tonnes.
