Rodríguez links Venezuela’s recovery to dialogue and announces food plan

Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, said dialogue with the United States and opposition groups had helped support the country’s economic recovery.

She spoke at a meeting of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome.

Rodríguez said a report showed undernourishment had fallen to 3%, from 5.3% in 2025, and acute malnutrition among children under five had dropped to 1.3% by the end of 2025.

She attributed earlier shortages partly to sanctions imposed from 2017, saying they restricted access to financing, farm supplies and equipment.

Rodríguez announced the Venezuela Alimenta plan, which aims to strengthen food production and work toward ending hunger.

In the coming days, her government plans to present a bill to Parliament to support local and community economies and connect producers with the food industry.

The proposal still needs to go through Parliament, and no further steps are specified.

I announce that in the coming days I will present to the Venezuelan parliament a new law for the local economy that enables the communal economy, the community economy and the entrepreneurial economy, linking production chains for food production with the large agro-food industry.
