Mexican navy seizes 1.2 tonnes of cocaine off Oaxaca coast

Mexico’s navy and the US Coast Guard seized a boat carrying 46 bundles of suspected cocaine off the coast of Oaxaca, south of Huatulco.

The seizure was made during a maritime patrol, and the reported haul was 1.2 tonnes.

The article’s headline says seven people were detained, while its text says six.

The drugs and boat were taken to a naval base in Puerto Chiapas and handed to Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office to determine the official weight of the substance.

Authorities estimated the seizure caused criminal groups a loss of 289 million pesos and kept about 2.5 million doses from reaching the public.

The operation was part of ongoing sea, air and land patrols aimed at disrupting illegal activity and weakening criminal groups.
