Spain moves to set a 2027 minimum wage rise tied to inflation

Spain’s government is preparing to raise the national minimum wage for 2027.

The current minimum is €1,221 a month, paid in 14 instalments.

Labour Minister Yolanda Díaz has asked an expert committee to recommend how much it should rise.

The government says the increase should at least match inflation so the minimum wage does not lose purchasing power.

Inflation was 4.9% year on year in September, while forecasts put average inflation for 2026 at about 3.7%.

Depending on the rate used, the monthly minimum could be around €1,266 to €1,282.

The committee is due to finish its work by 31 October or shortly after, and the government wants to approve the increase before the general election.
