French high-school students plan another day of protests

High-school students in France are planning another day of protests on Tuesday, October 13.

In Paris, a march is due to go from Place d’Italie to Les Invalides, near government offices.

Demonstrations are also planned in Rennes, Toulouse and Poitiers, and some high-school blockades are expected to continue.

The protests are part of an ongoing student mobilization, but the specific demands are not detailed here.

The government has begun offering political responses after initially focusing on maintaining public order.

Education Minister Edouard Geffray has promised 3,000 substitute teachers for the high schools facing the most serious problems, and their deployment has begun.

Student organizations have called that response inadequate and are due to meet Geffray on Thursday.
