Horizons proposes €10 billion in extra savings for France’s 2027 budget
Horizons, the party led by Edouard Philippe, proposed an alternative to the French government’s 2027 budget.
The plan would cancel €10 billion in planned tax increases and make an equal amount in additional savings.
Horizons says half the savings would come from state spending and half from social spending.
Its proposals include reversing the suspension of pension reform, which it says would save €1 billion in 2027, and not replacing one in three public workers.
The party shares the government’s goal of reducing the public deficit to 5% in 2027, but says the plan should rely more on restoring social accounts.
Debate on the budget began in France’s National Assembly on Tuesday, and the party intends to put forward its proposals during the discussions.
