China sets out measures to improve e-commerce quality and openness
China’s Ministry of Commerce and six other government departments issued a plan on October 10 to improve the quality of e-commerce.
It sets out 15 measures across five areas, covering platforms, sellers, consumers, cross-border trade and industry standards.
The plan calls for stronger quality controls on platforms and support for sellers, including small businesses with original designs or core technologies.
It also encourages online brands to open physical shops and develop services that work both online and in person.
For cross-border e-commerce, it aims to promote overseas goods in China and support new ways to showcase them, including livestreaming through national pavilions.
The plan also calls for better industry standards and action against disorderly, irrational competition.
The departments are now set to carry out the measures described in the plan.
China’s Ministry of Commerce and six other departments published a notice on October 10 setting out a five-part initiative to improve e-commerce quality.
The notice outlines 15 specific tasks across platforms, merchants, consumers, cross-border e-commerce and industry standards.
Measures for platforms include encouraging chief quality officer roles and stronger quality management systems.
The plan supports merchants through measures such as linking e-commerce with industrial clusters and helping small sellers with core technology or original designs reach online channels.
For cross-border commerce, the notice calls for promoting the Silk Road E-commerce brand, supporting overseas products and developing online channels linked to national pavilions.
The departments also propose improving e-commerce standards and addressing disordered, irrational competition.
