NTI centre managers begin month-long strike over unpaid allowances
Centre managers at Nigeria’s National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) have begun a one-month warning strike across Nigeria.
The National Centre Managers’ Forum says members are owed honoraria dating from 2020 through the first semester of 2026.
It says the payments cover work in both semesters from 2020 to 2025 and the first semester of 2026.
The forum says it tried to resolve the issue with NTI management before calling the strike.
Managers have been told to suspend teaching and other activities in programmes including teacher training, education degrees and postgraduate education courses.
The strike is scheduled to run from 12 October to 12 November 2026.
The forum says it remains open to talks but will prepare an indefinite strike if its demands are not met by then.
