Yoko Taro says he has fulfilled his creative ambitions but keeps making games

Yoko Taro, the creator of the Nier and Drakengard games, says he has largely achieved his creative ambitions.

He said he was able to make his first directed game, Drakengard, mostly as he wanted.

Taro said he has considered retiring, but continues working in game development partly because the money helps.

He also joked that work is good for preventing dementia, while suggesting he worries about what might happen to his mental health if he becomes idle.

Taro says he tries to make games that fill gaps left by other creators, rather than repeating styles he sees as already perfected.

He also hopes to avoid being overtaken by younger developers using AI, but gave no plans for when he might retire.
