Composer Mick Gordon Says He Won’t Use Generative AI
Mick Gordon, the Australian composer known for the 2016 Doom soundtrack, said he does not plan to use generative AI in his music.
He made the comment in an interview at PAX Australia 2026.
Gordon has used unusual real-world sounds in his work, including chainsaw recordings for Doom and a traditional instrument made from bone for Killer Instinct.
He argues that AI is limited because it learns from work people have already made, while humans can create new things.
He also believes people will continue to value connecting with other people through creative work.
Gordon has contributed music to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, due out October 14, and is working on the soundtrack for Defect.
In 2027, he is set to perform music from Doom and Doom Eternal live with a full band at the RADAR festival.
