Star Wars Galactic Racer’s progression system began as a board game
Fuse Games is developing Star Wars Galactic Racer, a high-speed arcade racing game.
Before building its progression system in the game, the team tested it as a simple board game.
The prototype used notes, paper and dice to help the developers try out how upgrades and rewards would feel.
After races, players can earn points to improve stats, parts for their speeders or credits to spend on upgrades and abilities.
The system also has roguelite features: some unlocks enter a pool for future runs, while certain upgrades carry over between runs.
The developers said a board game let them test these ideas quickly and focus on the experience they wanted to create.
The sources do not say when the game will be released.
Fuse Games prototyped Star Wars Galactic Racer’s progression system as a board game.
The prototype let developers test how upgrades and progression felt before committing to an in-software version.
The system offers event-based rewards, including tuning points, speeder parts and credits.
After several races, players can spend credits on upgrades, parts or a new ability.
The game’s roguelite-style progression includes unlocks that may appear in future runs and permanent upgrades carried between runs.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
You can't know if you can feel the system until you can play the system.
but there's still something [about that which is] not as fast as getting a written idea down.
So when it came to upgrades and meta progression, I can do a board game in a day.
