BMW staff portal crashes after severance offers are posted

BMW has started a programme offering severance to employees as part of a workforce reduction.

Tens of thousands received emails telling them their offers were available online.

So many people tried to access the staff portal that it stopped working.

The outage shows how a large number of employees were seeking information about the programme at once.
