Paredes ruled out of Boca’s Sudamericana semifinal first leg against Vasco
Boca captain Leandro Paredes will miss the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinal against Vasco da Gama after suffering a grade-two strain in his right hamstring.
He was injured during Boca’s 2-2 draw with Instituto and left the field after 15 minutes.
The match against Vasco is at Boca’s Bombonera stadium.
Paredes usually helps control the pace of play, move the ball out from defence and organise the team, so his absence leaves a significant gap.
Coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena said Boca has players who can cover for him, though they bring different strengths.
Milton Delgado and Santiago Ascacíbar are expected to start, with Ignacio Alarcón and Carlos Palacios also among the possible midfield options.
Boca will need to share Paredes’s responsibilities across the midfield.
