Jack Rudoni penalty ends Coventry's 25-year wait for a home top-flight goal

Coventry City took an early lead against Newcastle United at the CBS Arena on Monday night.

Midfielder Jack Rudoni scored from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek brought down Sidiki Cherif in the area.

The goal was Coventry's first at home in the top flight since John Hartson scored against Sunderland in April 2001.

Cherif won the penalty in his first Premier League start, after fitness problems had disrupted his summer.

The goal gave Frank Lampard's team momentum as they sought to build on a recent away win at Nottingham Forest.

If Coventry hold the lead and win, they would move to 14th with six points, while Newcastle would drop to 11th on eight points.
