Ada Colau leads among Sumar voters as left weighs election candidate

A Sigma Dos poll asked who should lead Spain’s Frente Amplio, an alternative left-wing political grouping, ahead of elections scheduled for 29 November.

Among people who voted for Sumar in 2023, former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau was the most popular choice, ahead of Mónica García and Irene Montero.

Across all respondents, Social Rights Minister Pablo Bustinduy ranked first, with 16.1% support, but he has ruled himself out.

That leaves García, Colau and Montero as the main possible candidates described in the poll.

García had 14.2% support nationwide and was strongest among voters for Pedro Sánchez, while Colau had 12.5% overall and led among former Sumar voters.

Montero had 10.9% overall and was most popular among people aged 18 to 29.

The choice could shape Frente Amplio’s alliances, but the poll does not say who will be selected.
