Columnist rates Flávio Bolsonaro's economic plan above Lula's

A columnist compared the economic plans of presidential candidates Flávio Bolsonaro and Lula.

In a series of five videos, the columnist ranked candidates' proposals in areas including jobs, inequality, poverty, public finances and economic growth.

Flávio was rated strongest on jobs, with proposals including gradually lowering taxes on wages and special contracts for young people and unemployed people aged 50 or over.

Lula scored highest on reducing inequality, with proposals to tax wealthier people, while both candidates were rated well on fighting poverty through income support and investment in early childhood.

The columnist also judged Flávio's plans for growth and public finances stronger than Lula's, but said both avoided addressing pensions.

Romeu Zema had the best overall plan in the columnist's rankings, yet finished sixth in the first round with 0.3% of the vote.

The comparison raises a broader question: how much election plans matter if candidates may struggle to carry them out.
