Hackers deface Brazil’s Ancine portal with political insults

Hackers took over a portal for Brazil’s National Cinema Agency, known as Ancine, on Monday.

For about an hour, the page displayed insults aimed at President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and people from Brazil’s Northeast.

Its background image included lawmaker Flávio Bolsonaro and a map of the Northeast.

The messages also made claims about film sponsorship, public universities and election manipulation.

Ancine regulates Brazil’s audiovisual industry and was cut back and temporarily paralysed during Jair Bolsonaro’s government from 2018 to 2022.

Agency staff were alerted and the technical team addressed the problem, but the site was still inaccessible afterward.
