Busan renames Gamcheon Port’s eastern piers to highlight deep-sea fishing

Busan’s maritime and fisheries office is renaming piers 1–4 on the eastern side of Gamcheon Port as Gamcheon Port’s No.

1–4 Distant-Water Piers.

The port is in Busan, South Korea.

The piers opened in 1999 and work alongside nearby facilities such as refrigerated warehouses to handle catches from distant-water fishing.

They are described as the country’s largest piers for this purpose and a hub for South Korea’s distant-water fishing industry.

The new name is intended to make the piers’ role clearer and better reflect their history.

It also aligns their names with the government’s 2024–2028 plan for developing the distant-water fishing industry and with the nearby road name, Won-yang-ro.

The office says it will update port plans and nautical charts and inform relevant agencies and businesses to reduce confusion.
