Pyeongchang raises farm-supply support budget and per-farm limit
Pyeongchang County in South Korea is increasing support for farmers buying farm supplies such as fertilizer.
The county says higher international oil prices and exchange rates have raised the cost of these supplies.
Its budget for the program is rising from 77.5 billion won last year to 97.5 billion won this year.
The maximum support for each farm is increasing from 10 million won to 30 million won.
This year, farms cultivating at least two hectares will also receive support based on their cultivated area.
The county has made other changes in recent years, including allowing farmers to use more suppliers and combining access through local agricultural cooperatives.
It says it will keep adjusting the program based on farmers’ feedback to help them maintain stable farming operations.
Pyeongchang County raised this year’s budget for its half-price farm-supplies support program by 2 billion won, to 9.75 billion won.
The maximum support per farm increased from 10 million won to 30 million won.
The county said the changes are intended to ease farmers’ production costs as prices for farm supplies, including fertiliser, have risen.
This year, farms cultivating at least 2 hectares can also receive support based on area-specific rates.
The county has changed the program’s operating rules in recent years in response to feedback from farmers.
