SEC adopts standard NIL and revenue-share contracts across its schools

The SEC has adopted standard contracts for name, image and likeness (NIL) deals and revenue-sharing payments between its schools and athletes.

The change took effect immediately after SEC presidents voted for it on Oct.

12, 2026.

The Big Ten had already adopted a common contract model, making the SEC the second power conference to do so.

The contracts can include sections customized by individual schools, but the SEC’s specific terms were not provided.

Under the House v.

NCAA settlement, schools can share up to $21.6 million in revenue directly with athletes this academic year.

Standard contracts are part of the SEC’s move toward greater self-governance, but legal protections remain a concern.

College athletics administrators are also awaiting a House vote on the Protect College Sports Act after the November midterm election.
