Young people may need to change careers more often, foundation leader says

At a conference in Istanbul for the International Day of the Girl, foundation leader Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ said young people may have to change jobs and careers more often than earlier generations.

The event was part of the Strong Girls, Strong Futures project, which is supported by the European Union and has reached 7,652 young women.

Yalçındağ said scholarships are not enough: young people also need guidance on choosing a university course, planning a career and adjusting to change.

She said ongoing learning and emotional resilience will matter as technology changes jobs and workplaces.

The conference said 91.4% of young women surveyed saw economic hardship as a major barrier to leadership, while 76.7% cited gender norms.

In Turkey, one in three women aged 15 to 24 is neither studying nor working, and women's employment rate is 32.1%.

Yalçındağ called for greater private-sector involvement and said young people should receive support beyond their education.
