RETN opens new subsea route between Taipei and Hong Kong

Taiwan relies heavily on undersea cables for international internet connections.

RETN has opened another route between Taipei and Hong Kong, bringing its Taiwan routes to six.

More routes can help reduce the impact of cable disruptions.

The new route is also intended to support growing use of AI, cloud services and high-performance computing.

What people are saying

Like many island economies, Taiwan’s international connectivity relies heavily on subsea cables, which creates exposure to risks such as concentration where multiple systems share similar corridors or landing points, alongside ageing subsea cables, natural hazards and fishing activities.
