Attack on Riyadh airport kills 12 and injures 309

An attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, killed 12 people and injured 309, according to the Saudi civil aviation authority.

The victims included Saudi nationals and people from several other countries.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, claimed responsibility; a Saudi-led military coalition had also blamed them.

The attack came amid a wider war involving Iran and Saudi Arabia, which leads a coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against the Houthis.

Riyadh’s airport had been attacked earlier in the week, and flights were suspended after the latest strike.

Saudi Arabia and other governments warned people to avoid the airport as further attacks and flight disruption were possible.

US President Donald Trump said he was considering whether the United States should join Saudi attacks on the Houthis and would decide quickly.
