‘Selvi’ Follows a Nurse Pushed to Work Up to 72 Hours

“Selvi” is the first feature film by Tamil filmmaker Sailesh Rathnakumar.

It premieres in the Vision–Asia section of the Busan International Film Festival.

Anjali Patil plays Selvi, a homecare nurse who hopes to qualify as a nurse and work in Singapore.

When her childhood friend Kavitha attempts suicide, Selvi takes on Kavitha’s shifts as well as her own.

Her working stretch grows from 12 hours to 72, leaving her with less time for herself.

The film shows how extra responsibilities and insecure work can wear down care workers who are essential to families but may not be treated as part of them.

The film is told from Selvi’s point of view, and the source does not say what will happen after its Busan premiere.
