Raul Fernandez takes Indonesian GP second with two broken fingers
Raul Fernandez finished second in the Indonesian Grand Prix in Indonesia despite racing with two broken fingers.
The Spanish rider had already learned of one fracture after Saturday's sprint, and a second was found on Sunday morning.
His broken right index finger was the one he normally used to brake, so his Trackhouse Aprilia team adjusted his hand position and brake setup so he could use his middle finger instead.
He had only the warm-up to get used to the change.
Fernandez said the pain and unfamiliar technique made it difficult to stay focused during the race.
Marco Bezzecchi passed him later to take the win, giving Aprilia the top two places.
Fernandez credited MotoGP's medical staff for taping his finger and helping him take part.
