Former university leader says reading builds children’s intellectual skills

Former Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Vice-Chancellor Hanumanthu Lajapathirai says reading helps build personality and intellectual skills.

He urged parents to encourage children to read books from an early age.

Lajapathirai has been elected honorary president of Vizianagaram Reads Community, a group in Vizianagaram.

The group held reading sessions for children over the weekend at poet and writer Gurajada Apparao’s memorial house.

Its founder, Repalle Eswara Rao, said academic study alone does not develop creative and logical thinking.

The group also holds sessions in libraries, parks and other public places.

It encourages children to read biographies and children’s literature.
