NIA arrests another suspect in alleged JMB offshoot conspiracy
India’s National Investigation Agency has arrested an unnamed suspect in West Bengal in a terrorism conspiracy case.
The agency says the alleged plot involved Imam Mahmuder Kafila, an offshoot of the banned Jama'at-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh.
Investigators say the group sought to spread extremist ideas and expand its network in West Bengal and India’s north-eastern states.
They allege that the plan included radicalising and recruiting young people through meetings, religious programmes, literature and digital platforms such as Telegram.
The agency says it recovered mobile phones, memory cards and other digital devices from the suspect.
The arrest follows the detention of 13 people in raids across Assam, West Bengal and Kerala on September 29; a charge sheet was filed against 11 people on June 25.
The investigation is continuing, and the agency has not named the newly arrested suspect.
