Jakarta governor says river basins and reservoirs could cut flooding
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung says the Mampang and Krukut river basins could reduce flooding by up to 8%.
The estimate is theoretical, and the projects are part of Jakarta’s effort to prevent floods.
Two reservoirs and one dam are under construction, including Kebagusan Reservoir in South Jakarta.
The three projects are projected to operate by February 2027.
Kebagusan Reservoir is expected to reduce flooding in the Mampang-Krukut river system by about 2.3%, and it is also planned as a public space.
The stored water may be treated for residents to use, with the water utility to calculate any charges.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the Mampang and Krukut river basins could reduce flooding by up to 8 percent.
He made the estimate while inspecting construction of the Kebagusan reservoir in South Jakarta on October 13.
Two reservoirs and one larger reservoir are under construction and are projected to operate by February 2027.
The facilities are part of Jakarta’s JakTirta Project, a flood-control program that began in 2025.
Pramono said the Kebagusan reservoir could also serve as a public space and supply water for residents.

What people are saying
From theoretical calculations, Mampang or the Mampang and Krukut river basins could hopefully hold back up to eight percent of the water.
We will allow cooperation between the Water Resources Agency and PAM Jaya so this water can be consumed or used by residents, but PAM Jaya will calculate the rates and other details.
