Niko Kovač extends Borussia Dortmund contract until 2029

Niko Kovač has extended his contract as Borussia Dortmund head coach until 2029, and his brother Robert, an assistant coach, has also signed through 2029.

The German club brought Niko Kovač in during February 2025, when it was in a serious sporting crisis.

Dortmund says Kovač has steadily developed the team and is widely accepted within the club.

The extension follows contract renewals for managing director Carsten Cramer, through 2031, and sporting executive Lars Ricken, through 2030.

The club is keeping its leadership in place to support continuity and stability.

Kovač says the team has a clear idea of how it wants to play and must keep working to improve.

He and the club believe the team has more potential to fulfil.

The club says the coach and its leadership are working on the next steps for the team, but no specific targets or plans were announced.
