Ballistic missile interception delays Al-Nassr match in Riyadh

Al-Nassr’s AFC Champions League Elite match against Uzbekistan’s Neftchi began more than 15 minutes later than scheduled on Monday in Riyadh.

The delay came as a ballistic missile launched toward the Saudi capital was intercepted and destroyed, according to a coalition forces spokesman.

Fans were already inside Al-Awwal Park when the match was held up.

A stadium announcement urged them not to be afraid or leave, and said the situation was safe.

The game was part of the competition’s second round, after Al-Nassr had failed to win its opening match.

The delay disrupted the build-up, but the match eventually began.

The team was seeking a positive result in front of its home supporters.
