Gamba Osaka beats Newcastle Jets 3-1 after coming from behind

Gamba Osaka came from behind to beat Newcastle Jets 3-1 in the Asian Champions League Elite at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium.

Newcastle took the lead through Nikos Vergos in the 32nd minute, but Yusei Toshida equalised before halftime.

Former Newcastle player Eli Adams helped set up Gamba’s second goal, and substitutes Deniz Hummet and Welton Felipe scored after the break.

The Jets remain winless in the competition after also losing their opening match 7-1 to Kashima Antlers.

The result matters as Newcastle looks to recover from a difficult start to its continental campaign.

Newcastle next faces Central Coast in the A-League Men on Saturday, then travels to play Kyoto Sanga on October 27.
