South Korea’s Supreme Court finalizes 45.32 billion won award to Woori Bank

South Korea’s Supreme Court has finalized a ruling requiring Shinhan Investment Securities and Lime Asset Management to jointly pay Woori Bank about 45.32 billion won.

The case concerns losses Woori Bank said it suffered from selling Lime funds.

The Lime crisis began after allegations that Lime Asset Management improperly handled convertible bonds and other investments to manage returns.

Share prices in the funds fell, and redemptions worth about 1.6 trillion won were suspended.

Woori Bank sued Shinhan and Lime in January 2022, seeking about 64.74 billion won.

Lower courts ordered the two firms to pay about 45.32 billion won, and the Supreme Court made that ruling final on October 8.

Lime Asset Management had not appealed and the ruling against it became final earlier, in March of the previous year.
