Meta unveils AI models it says rival those of OpenAI and Anthropic

Meta has unveiled two new AI models, Wonder and Wonder Full, in San Francisco.

The company says they perform at a level comparable to models from OpenAI and Anthropic, but that is Meta’s claim.

Meta says outside benchmarking data shows the models outperform its earlier Spark model and various models from other companies.

The launch is part of Meta’s effort to compete in AI and rely less on advertising for revenue.

Meta has invested heavily in AI and hired Alexandr Wang to lead its Superintelligence Labs division.

The new models are expected to become available in Meta’s Muse personal-agent app for paid subscribers.

Meta says it delayed the Muse app to focus on safety and security, as companies face pressure to address risks from increasingly advanced AI.
