Ujjwal Nikam says his film required no glorification and real names
Prahaar is an upcoming film about public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and his role in the trial of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist captured after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Nikam said he set two conditions for the film: it should not glorify anyone, including him, and it should use the real names of people involved in the legal proceedings.
He said the makers obtained permission from people concerned, including trial judge Madan Laxmandas Tahaliyani.
Tahaliyani sentenced Kasab to death on May 6, 2010.
Rajkummar Rao plays Nikam in the courtroom drama.
Rao said he had not met Nikam before filming and prepared by studying videos of his courtroom arguments.
Nikam said Rao captured the force and energy of his courtroom style.
The film is scheduled to open in theatres on October 16, 2026.
Ujjwal Nikam says he required the makers of Prahaar to avoid glorifying any character, including himself.
He also asked them to use the real names of people involved in the legal proceedings.
Nikam said the makers obtained no-objection certificates from people concerned, including trial judge Madan Laxmandas Tahaliyani.
The film stars Rajkummar Rao as Nikam and centres on the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks case.
Nikam praised Rao’s portrayal, saying the actor captured his forceful courtroom manner.
Prahaar is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 16, 2026.
