Haze keeps Singapore air quality in the unhealthy range

Air quality across Singapore remained in the unhealthy range on Sunday, October 11, as haze persisted.

The National Environment Agency said smoke from southern Sumatra was drifting towards Singapore, and haze was also seen in parts of Kalimantan.

Dry conditions are expected to continue in parts of both areas, while winds could keep carrying smoke towards Singapore.

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index ranged from 116 to 153 at 7am, and the agency forecast unhealthy to highly unhealthy air over the next 24 hours.

Singapore has convened a task force of 28 government agencies and prepared measures if the air gets worse.

If the PSI exceeds 200, N95 masks will be distributed to eligible residents and haze shelters will be set up.

Schools may close if the next day’s forecast exceeds 300, and the government will announce any closure by about 8pm the day before.
