Prabowo convenes meeting to review forest fire response in Sumatra and Kalimantan

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto convened a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on October 12, 2026.

The meeting reviewed how authorities are handling forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan, which were identified as priority areas.

Ministers, military and police leaders, disaster officials, governors and regional commanders joined in person or by video conference.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman said Indonesia has peatlands that are difficult to extinguish.

He also said the fires have affected neighboring countries, including Malaysia and Singapore.

Prabowo is concerned about those cross-border effects, Dudung said.

The meeting was intended to assess the response, but no specific decisions or next steps were stated.

The impact on neighboring countries is why Prabowo is very concerned, because we have many peatlands that are difficult to extinguish, but we are making several efforts.
