Rays and Guardians enter ALCS with different amounts of rest

The Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians are set to begin the American League Championship Series on Monday in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Cleveland advanced by beating the Chicago White Sox in a tense five-game series that ended late Saturday.

The Guardians had little time to recover before traveling to Florida, and manager Stephen Vogt chose Foster Griffin to start Game 1 shortly before the team’s workout.

Tampa Bay clinched its previous series against the New York Yankees on Wednesday and enters the matchup after four days off.

Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen is set to start the opener after pitching against the Yankees, and several other Tampa Bay pitchers are rested.

The teams therefore begin the series with different preparation and recovery time, raising the familiar question of whether rest helps more than it disrupts players’ rhythm.

Cleveland’s Gavin Williams is unlikely to start again until Game 3, according to the report; the series will show how each team’s schedule affects its performance.
