Turkey’s interior minister says fund coordination board is still working

Turkey’s Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said a fund coordination board chaired by the vice-president is continuing its work on a fund investigation.

He said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had called for people who made unlawful gains to answer to Turkish courts.

Çiftçi also described government campaigns against criminal groups and drug trafficking.

He said that by the end of September, authorities had carried out 1,741 operations targeting 625 newer criminal groups, leading to 8,170 people being jailed.

He said 736 people accused of crimes in Turkey had been returned from abroad during the first nine months of the year, and that he planned visits to Germany and Italy to discuss security cooperation.

Çiftçi also reported 42,377 drug-related operations this year and seizures including 39 tonnes of drugs and about 104 million synthetic drug units.
