Turkcell and TÜBİTAK complete first commercial tests of 6G prototypes

Turkcell and TÜBİTAK teams completed the first commercial tests of locally designed smart-surface prototypes in Türkiye.

Tests took place at Turkcell Kartal Plaza and the TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus.

The prototypes were tested using 5G frequencies of 3.7 GHz and 26 GHz.

These devices are designed to improve mobile coverage and efficiency in crowded places, including city centres, indoor spaces and areas with many connected devices.

The work is part of Türkiye’s effort to develop domestic technologies in support of its 6G plans, while Turkcell continues investing in 5G.

TÜBİTAK’s head said the first locally developed RIS prototype in the N78 frequency band was an important research and development achievement.

The teams will now focus on turning new smart-surface technologies into products, and the work is also intended to strengthen Türkiye’s position in international standards processes.
