South Korean lawmaker proposes special probe into president’s golf outings
Opposition lawmaker Joo Jin-woo proposed a special investigation into President Lee Jae-myung’s golf outings in South Korea.
Joo says the inquiry should examine whether Lee played golf during a shopping-center ceiling collapse and a naval sailor’s disappearance, and whether he failed in his duties.
He also wants investigators to check golf costs, possible use of government security funds, and alleged spending linked to the president’s family and official residence.
The proposal has not established that Lee did anything wrong; these are questions Joo wants investigated.
Ruling party leader Kim Min-seok defended Lee, saying the president responded to the situation and that golf can relate to health and diplomatic preparation.
Kim criticized Joo over a social media comment about Lee, while ruling party lawmakers called for Joo to apologize and resign and discussed suspending lawmakers’ duties for extreme remarks.
Joo rejected the criticism as an attempt to silence the opposition and said he would not back down.
The sources give no outcome for the proposed investigation or the party’s discussion of sanctions.

At every national tragedy, there has been entertainment mukbang and emperor golf, and disregard for the people has gone too far.
If they try to shut my mouth by referring me to the Ethics Committee, I will call a news conference and let you hear real abusive language.
The president’s golf has a health aspect, and realistically, an aspect of preparing for diplomacy.
