Brazil election court seeks details on Flávio Bolsonaro's case against Lula allies
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has filed an election-law case against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and lawmaker André Janones.
Bolsonaro’s campaign accuses Janones of using a WhatsApp channel and other online accounts to spread disinformation and attacks against him, allegations that have not been established.
The campaign wants the electoral court to suspend the WhatsApp channel “Exército do Lula” and an Instagram account, remove some posts and take other measures.
The court’s chief electoral inspector, Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva, gave Bolsonaro 72 hours to clarify whether similar requests are pending in other cases and to specify the alleged violations and evidence.
He also gave the campaign five days to submit original digital files cited in its filing.
Lula, Alckmin and Janones have been notified and have five days to respond.
The court has accepted the case for processing, but Cueva said this does not mean the accusations are proven, and he has not yet ruled on urgent measures.
Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court ordered presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro to clarify requests in his case against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin and federal deputy André Janones.
