MPA says it helped shut down Cineby and AnimeFLV
The Motion Picture Association says it helped shut down Cineby and AnimeFLV earlier this year.
The group said it acted with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, an anti-piracy coalition.
Cineby and AnimeFLV were major piracy sites that streamed films, television and anime to large audiences.
Their operators did not cite copyright enforcement when they first went offline, and Cineby blamed problems with related networks.
The association named several other sites as notorious markets, including Kisskh, Aniwaves and Animepahe.
The designation is not confirmation that those sites will be shut down, but Cineby and AnimeFLV had also appeared on an earlier list before enforcement action.
The filing says the shutdowns supported US film and television workers, and the association’s statements may signal continued efforts against piracy sites.
The Motion Picture Association said coordinated actions by it and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment shut down piracy sites Cineby and AnimeFLV.
The MPA disclosed its role in a response to the U.S. Trade Representative about foreign notorious markets.
Cineby stopped operating in late August and early September, while AnimeFLV stopped delivering videos in mid-June.
Cineby had recorded more than 160 million monthly visits at its peak, and AnimeFLV attracted more than one billion visits annually.
The MPA also listed several other anime streaming sites as notorious markets or priority targets.
