Manikanta Hoblidhar wins 100m title after injury layoff

Manikanta Hoblidhar won the men’s 100m at the 65th National Open Athletics Championships in India on Friday.

The 24-year-old ran 10.25 seconds, ahead of Lalu Prasad Bhoi and Lukik Melge.

Hoblidhar set a national record last year when he became the first Indian man to run the 100m in under 10.20 seconds.

In March, a Grade 2 hamstring tear and a blood clot in his tendons disrupted his season.

He missed the Commonwealth and Asian Games and the World Relays.

Hoblidhar said he was cautious after his long break and aims to run 10.00 seconds next season.

He said he still needs to build fitness before then.
