Molecaten buys former Gillis campsite in Valkenburg for €3.55 million

Molecaten is buying Stadsresort Valkenburg, a former campsite owned by Peter Gillis in the Dutch city of Valkenburg.

The company is paying €3.55 million for the site, which was sold at a forced auction.

Gillis bought it in 2021, but the campsite never opened because he did not pass a municipal integrity check linked to suspicions of money laundering.

The site has stood empty for years.

It has places for camper vans and tents, two apartments and other facilities.

Molecaten runs 19 holiday parks in the Netherlands and Hungary, and Valkenburg will be its first location in the province.

The handover is expected in the coming weeks, but the company has not said what it plans to do with the site.
