African states sign convention to help children leave armed groups
The convention sets out how to identify children in armed groups, free them and help them return to their communities.
More than 10 African countries signed it, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger and Mali.
A signature alone does not make the agreement binding; countries must ratify or join it.
Support such as schooling, care and family help can reduce the risk that children are recruited again.
