Japan government submits bill to cut tax on food and nonalcoholic drinks

Japan’s government has submitted a bill to parliament to reduce the consumption tax on food and nonalcoholic drinks.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s government is proposing the change.

The tax on these items is currently 8%.

Under the plan, it would fall to 1% starting in April.

This would reduce the tax charged on food and nonalcoholic drinks.

Parliament will consider the bill next.
