Brad Bird’s ‘Ray Gunn’ premieres at the London Film Festival
Brad Bird’s animated science-fiction film “Ray Gunn” premiered at the London Film Festival at Royal Festival Hall.
Sam Rockwell voices Raymond “Ray” Gunn, a private detective, and Scarlett Johansson voices Venus Nova, a famous pop star.
Johansson said she joined because she was a fan of Bird and wanted to work with him.
Bird said the idea came from mishearing the B-52s’ song “Planet Claire” as a version of the “Peter Gunn” theme.
Composer Michael Giacchino’s birthday fell on the day of the premiere, and the group sang “Happy Birthday” to him.
The film had been in development for more than 30 years, according to Bird’s account at the event.
It is scheduled to play in select theaters on December 4 and arrive on Netflix on December 18.
