Toshiba HR leader says AI is changing how recruiters hire

Jason Richard Desentz, Toshiba’s chief human resources officer for the Americas, says AI is changing how companies hire.

He has worked in human resources for nearly 30 years and says the change is part of a longer need to adapt.

Toshiba has built AI tools to help recruiters find strong candidates among large numbers of résumés.

The tools can also help prepare interview questions tailored to a candidate, without ruling out someone who could learn the job.

Desentz says this can shift junior recruiters away from résumé screening and toward advising managers, interviewing and onboarding new employees.

In interviews, he focuses on how candidates solve problems, use information, work with others and respond to unexpected changes.

His approach reflects how hiring roles and the skills employers seek may change as AI takes on some tasks.
