A list names the top progressive metal band in 25 countries
A music feature has selected one progressive metal band from each of 25 countries.
Progressive metal combines heavy metal with complex musical structures and longer, more intricate compositions.
The picks include bands from countries such as the United States, Sweden, Finland, Canada and Norway.
The feature says the United States was especially difficult to judge because several pioneering and newer bands come from there.
It says its choices were based on impact, longevity, sustained quality and general consensus.
The selections are the feature’s own judgments, and it invites readers to suggest different choices.
It also points readers to separate lists of progressive metal debut albums and progressive doom metal albums.
