Fontaines D.C.’s Fifth Album Turns Toward Dystopian Electronic Rock

Fontaines D.C., a band that came out of Dublin, have made their fifth album, Dopamine Chamber.

The group began with post-punk sounds on its 2019 debut, Dogrel, and has taken a more ambitious musical direction on later records.

The new album moves further from guitar rock, adding electronic sounds and orchestral arrangements.

Its songs draw on fears about technology, the decline of civilizations and inequality between the wealthy and everyone else.

One track, “Where Is Gone?,” is a duet between frontman Grian Chatten and Rosalía.

The album matters as another step in the band’s changing sound, while keeping its focus on dark and uncertain times.
